In the 1997 Telugu film Dongaata, a woman tries to keep her fiancé from falling in love with her but instead falls in love with the robber who assists her:

Plot:

A simpleton named Subbalakshmi (Soundarya) is adored by her cousin Prakash Rao (Suresh). When Prakash doesn’t show up for her after moving to the city to pursue further education, Her cousin Prakash Rao (Suresh) adores Subbalakshmi (Soundarya), a gullible woman.

Subbalakshmi lies to her father and leaves town when Prakash relocates to the city for further education and fails to come for her. She encounters Raju, a burglar who has stolen a diamond necklace, on the train. In order to evade the police, Raju conceals the jewelry in her purse.

Raju falls in love with Subbalakshmi after assisting her in finding Prakash. However, Lavanya’s wealth is now the result of Prakash’s manipulation of Subbalakshmi.
